Using Google Business Profile Posts To Keep Your Business Ahead Of Your Competitors

Using Google Business Profile posts and updates to keep your business ahead of your competitors

Hard times are here and many marine businesses are suffering. Staffing shortages, rising energy prices, and inflation are all affecting what people have available to spend. Coupled with this the pandemic skyrocketed the digital industry quicker than anyone could ever have imagined. Now, to stay afloat, you need to be ahead of your competitors at ALL times if you want to continue to reach new customers.

There are many ways you can achieve this and SPC Marine Marketing are here to help you with this. However, there is one small thing you can do that very few businesses are doing to give you the edge on Google. Post regularly on your Google Business Profile (previously known as Google My Business). If you don’t have a Google Business Profile, click on this link and create your profile today… Create a Google Business Profile.

Here are some reasons why adding a short post at least once a week to your Google My Business Profile is worth doing…

  • It’s FREE
  • The updates appear to audiences in the app for Google Maps on mobile
  • The updates appear in desktop searches on Google
  • When people are searching for businesses like yours on Google they will see your profile and updates
  • It is quick and easy to do
  • Customers can quickly get a feel for your business
  • If they click on the update there is a Call To Action (CTA)
  • It adds SEO value and the SEO robots like it.

If you already have a Google Business Profile, search your business profile on Google and your Google Business Profile should appear in the right column. Scroll down until you see ‘Add Update’. Here you can add offers, events, products or services. Here are some tips to writing your post/update…

  • Keep it short, relevant and optimised.
  • Don’t use hashtags
  • Use a relevant image
  • Create a CTA - you can add call now, book, learn more, order online or sign up with a link.

The downside is that the Google updates/posts do not stay visible forever. They are supposedly removed after 7-days (unless it is a dated event and then they are removed after the event date). However, it has been reported by many Google Business Profile users that the posts do stay up longer.

Ten minutes or so once a week posting an update is well worth the SEO gain, more visibility to customers, and increased brand awareness. Try it and let me know how you get on.
