Content is still KING! Some simple SEO tips to improve your Google ranking

SPC Marine Marketing - Content is still King

Google is still the search engine we all want to impress. Wouldn't we all love our websites to be number 1 on Google for our chosen search terms? With 571 new websites being created every minute on Google, we have to keep ahead of the game. There are some simple steps you can take, without being a web wizard, to improve or maintain your rankings.

Google regularly sends its spiders into your website. Checking for certain indicators which it uses to determine whether your site should move up or down the ranks. Knowing what the spiders are looking for will help you improve your SEO (search engine optimisation).

Add fresh content

Google likes a website which is constantly being updated with fresh content. Good original content which adds value for people will tell Google that you are a trusted and knowledgeable source. They will, in turn, boost your ranking. Content can be in the form of blogs, images, events, videos and how to guides.

Delete out of date content

If you have events, offers, price lists or calendars on your website which have passed and are out of date, remove them. Out of date content tells Google that you do not update your site and they are then less likely to show your website in searches.

Make sure all your links work

When Google sends in its spiders, they will not like broken links. This is because visitors to your site will not like broken links either. Google will be inclined to show your site less if it has broken links. It is important to check all your links work regularly.

Create content that will, in turn, result in backlinks

Backlinks are links from other sites to yours. The more reputable the source the better. Links from websites which rank high on Google will benefit your website's ranking. If you create valuable content regularly, you are more likely to attract backlinks from good sources.

Share Content on Social Media

Everything you post on social media is ranked by Google. When you have good content on your website, you need to share it on your social media sites. Link from your social media sites to your website. The more Google sees one of your blogs being retweeted or shared, the more likely they are to show that content in search results. One way to ensure your content is shared regularly is to share other content from social media sites in your niche. This increases the chance of someone else sharing your content.

All of the above tips are fairly easy to implement but of course, they take time and not every small to medium-sized business has the resources to do this. At SPC Marine marketing, we can help with content creation and social media management. Growing a loyal following on your social media sites and posting engaging content to drive traffic to your website is the mainstay of what we do.

One of our unique selling points is cross-marketing. Because we only work in the marine sector, we can share your content with other companies which we work with. For example, you might manufacture a RIB and another company might run a powerboat school. The target audience of the powerboat school might be interested in buying a RIB and equally someone interested in buying a RIB might need to do a powerboat course. We can retweet your content and vice versa. This increases your reach and brand awareness exponentially.
