How to customise your Linkedin URL

SPC Marine Marketing How to customise your linkedin URL article image

It is likely that most of you will still have the generic URL which Linkedin allocate to you when you first sign up. This will be a combination of dashes and numbers and means nothing to anyone, is difficult to remember and it is not searchable. Therefore to optimise your Linkedin profile and make it easier for people to find you, you need to customise your Linkedin URL. Make it snappy and easy to remember so you can add it to your business cards. Think about whether people find you by searching for your name or what you do.  It will take only a few minutes. If you don't change it, you are leaving a roadblock in the way, making it more difficult to be found.

If you are using Linkedin for networking you need to change your URL. If you are not using Linkedin, you should be!

I have added screenshots from my profile to show you how to do this but please be aware that this is on a Microsoft Desktop and you might find if you have an Apple or an Android device it might be different. Microsoft owns Linkedin and is obviously in competition with Apple, therefore, the functionality might not work so well on an Apple device.

Firstly, log in to your Linkedin profile and click on ME, i.e. your image on the top bar...

Secondly, click on View Profile...

Thirdly,  click on Edit public profile & URL...

Finally, change the URL to either your name or what you do or a combination of the two...

Remember this only takes about 2 mins to do but could make the difference to a potential lead finding your or NOT!
