5 Ways To Increase Customer Engagement
Keeping a previous customer or one that has shown interest in your product, but not yet purchased is essential. The minute you stop engaging with them, they will go elsewhere. To the next bookstore, the next sailing school, the next boat yard etc.
What is Customer Engagement?
Engagement is the customer building a positive relationship with you, your company and other customers.
Customers are in the driving seat now, they have so many choices both in the high street and online. They can choose to take their purchasing power anywhere and buy from companies abroad offering the same products as locally.
The customer having a seamless experience offered by one channel is the future of engagement and if you do not have the technology in place to deliver this holistic approach, your business will take a back seat. There are many ways to increase engagement but we are going to look at the easiest to implement to get you started.
1. Reviews
When your customers have purchased from you, been on a course or used your services, it is a good idea to issue them with a short survey, a thank you email and ask them to review your service on your facebook business page. Reviews are highlighted on your facebook page and are highly regarded by potential new customers.
2. Email Marketing
Inundated with newsletters, customers tend to either not open or scan quickly the detailed newsletters that you send out 3 to 6 times a year. I know some people send them more regularly and others not at all but generally they will be ignored. You are more likely to have a result by sending out more frequently a simple one or two paragraph message. Use mailing list software to organise your campaigns and see the statistics on who has and has not opened your email.
3. Keep your content up to date
We are all limited time wise, and it is a common mistake to make, but out of date information will result in people never coming back to your website. Its the biggest turn off! Think white socks!
4. Facebook
Facebook is the largest social network with over 24 million Britons logging onto it daily. To ignore the power of this is to say you do not care about your customers. Only about 20% of your followers will see your posts at any one time. You need to post regularly. If people do not engage with your content there is less likelihood of them seeing your future posts. If you like your business products or services, show them other things you like. Use the insights on facebook to find out more about your followers.
5. Twitter
Many people say they do not understand Twitter. I can understand that... as I thought the same not that long ago. Now, with over 7,000 followers and posting 18 times a day, with each post generating engagement or clicks on my website, I would not ignore it. Your twitter posts are shown to everyone but not everyone will see them! Your post will very quickly be way to far down the list of tweets for them to scroll to. For this reason, you should be tweeting as regularly as you can. I advised a beauticians the other day on their Twitter marketing and they are delighted with the results but then they are tweeting at least once an hour. If you do not have the time or inclination to do this, pay someone else to do it for you.
