SPC Marine Marketing Gain Facebook Followers without spending your money article image

Facebook is constantly changing. Unfortunately for those of us who wish to get our products in front of our fans, it is becoming increasingly difficult to do so. Facebook states it is trying to improve what people see in their newsfeed. However, if you have the bucks and can afford to advertise, they are more than happy to put your products into peoples newsfeeds!

It is, therefore, important to attract more people to your page and turn them into 'Likes'. The more 'Likes' you have the more people will see your content. Of course, you do not want anyone liking and following your page, you want to attract your target market.

Tips to help you get your target market to 'Like' your page...

Post Quality and Relevant Content

You know hundreds of people will see your page if you post about a fluffy cat or a police chase,  but will that gain you the right followers? No. If you are selling a product to people who own boats, post content which you know would appeal to boat owners.

  • Good quality videos- video content is favoured by the Facebook algorithm and gets greater engagement.

  • How to guides – Solve problems. Give people solutions that help them become better boat owners and sailors.

  • Share content from other sites which compliment your own.

  • Find out which posts work well by using Facebook Insights

  • Check out your competitors' posts and see which of their content performs best.

Invite people to 'LIKE' your page

  • When you post good content, people who do not follow or like your page can see your posts. If they react to your post, you can invite them to like your page. Click on a post which has people engaging with it. Then click on the list of people who have reacted. This will say something like... Jo Bloggs and 7 others like your post. If you click on this, a window will pop up with a list of all the people who have reacted. Beside each name there is a button. If that person has not already liked your page, it will say 'invite' and all you have to do is click it.

  • If you have other social channels such as Twitter, you should promote your Facebook page in your Tweets. Give a link to click on your Facebook page to 'Like' it.

Promote your Facebook Page

  • Make sure you have your Facebook icon prominent on your website. Preferably on every page.

  • Ensure your Facebook page is on your email signature.

  • Make sure you Facebook page is on your business card.

  • You could opt for a Facebook Feed on your website.

Optimise your Facebook Page

  • Make sure you have completed all the key sections on your page.

  • Have a high-quality cover image or video

  • Have a high-quality profile image

  • Check all your companies contact information is correct and complete

  • Complete the 'About' page and 'Services' page so people know who you are and what you offer.

Once you have done all of the above, you might want to start thinking about a small advertising budget to attract a highly targeted audience to your website and Facebook page. However, do not do this unless your Facebook and Website are the best they can be i.e fully optimised, visually appealing and easy to navigate.
